BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV spoke with Vladimir Putin for the first time and called for a ceasefire in occupied Oleshky, in Ukraine’s Kherson region, the Vatican said.

The pope expressed concern over the city’s humanitarian situation and urged a temporary halt in fighting to allow food and medicine deliveries and the evacuation of civilians. He also reaffirmed the Vatican’s readiness to support dialogue and a peaceful settlement of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
