I knew I was the one who let it fall apart, even when I had every chance to hold it together. Pride made me quiet when I should have fought for her, and now all that’s left is the echo of what we used to be. I keep replaying that night in my head, wishing I had said something different, anything that would’ve made her stay. “I never meant to hurt you, I just didn’t know how to stay,” I finally admit, though she’s no longer there to hear it. Now I’m standing in the aftermath of my own mistakes, feeling everything burn slowly inside me, realizing too late that some things don’t break all at once they fade, then disappear when you least expect it.

That night felt like the world had quietly paused the moment I met him. We came from different worlds, and it seemed like everyone had already decided how our story would end before it even began. But every time he looked at me, I felt something shift, like the rules didn’t have to matter as much as they said they did. “If everyone says this isn’t meant to be, why do I still want to try?” I asked softly in the middle of our conversation, my voice barely steady. He didn’t answer right away, just held my hand a little tighter, and in that silence I realized maybe we couldn’t change everything, but we could still choose to hold on to the part of the story that was ours.
