We broke up because I kept expecting you to love me the way my ex did. I compared everything you did to them, made you feel like you were constantly falling short, and got angry whenever you weren’t like them. You spent the whole relationship trying to be enough for me, while I was still holding onto what I had with them. I kept expecting you to give me something that I wasn’t ready to admit I was still looking for, and whenever you couldn’t, I made you feel like you were the problem. You kept trying to love me better, not knowing I was comparing every effort you made to someone who wasn’t even there anymore.
