30 Sept 1938: The Treaty of Munich is signed by Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Édouard Daladier, and Neville Chamberlain, forcing Czechoslovakia to give territory to Germany in exchange for promises of peace.

Chamberlain infamously declares "Peace for our time" upon his return to London. WWII would start less than a year later with Hitler's invasion of Poland.
