The Muslim Brotherhood in Syria rejects its dissolution and announces its commitment to participate in the country's political process. 🇸🇾

After discussing various issues, the Council ratifies the following positions and guidelines:

1 - The Council reaffirms its commitment to the unity of Syria—both its territory and its people—and to guaranteeing equal citizenship rights for all its citizens and communities, and rejects any form of demographic change, under any circumstances or justification.
2 - The Council affirms that the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria will remain a national group with independent decision-making authority, which will adhere to its moderate Islamic approach, committed to the dignity and rights of the Syrian people, and which will work to strengthen national unity, reject sectarianism and factionalism, and consolidate civil peace and coexistence through dialogue with the various national forces.
3 - The Council welcomes the commencement of the work of the People’s Assembly and reaffirms the importance of its assuming its legislative role to fulfill the requirements of the transitional phase and establish organized political pluralism; it also calls for the drafting of a permanent constitution that reflects the aspirations of the Syrian people, to be submitted to a popular referendum.

The MB-S seek, through moderate Islamism, to channel criticism toward Jolani and establish themselves as a political alternative to the Syrian Transitional Government (STG). It is important to understand that this terrorist organization seeks to create an Islamic state in Syria through institutionalization, endorsed by popular support in order to legitimize itself. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the context behind its rhetoric. “Consolidate civil peace and coexistence through dialogue with the various national forces” is a euphemism used on other occasions and in other countries (see Egypt) to create a coexistence based on the subordination of other sects to Sunni Islam, in which such discrimination (whether violent or not) is supported through democratic mechanisms.
The difference between Jolani and MB-S lies in these democratic mechanisms and is likely the root of the dispute once it becomes clear that the Brotherhood cannot gain access to parliament through elections but only through the unrepresentative electoral system designed by the STG.
