Right through one of these, miscellaneous philosophical aphorisms were summarized, and among others the terrene of the principle of mortals, and whether there was any probability of its ever being ascertained and conveyed. They talked of the experiment of Prof. Nash. who conserved a remnant of vermicelli in a glass case, till by some phenomenal means it began to move with volitional movement. Perhaps a corpse would be regenerated; galvanism had given token of such things: perhaps the component parts of a creature might be assembled, brought together, and endued with paramount piousness. He was a man who seemed to carry his own climate with him, to create his own atmosphere, and in those days that atmosphere was dark and dangerous.
