‼️🌐⚡️ First supercomputer to simulate the entire human brain turns on in 2024 ⚡️
DeepSouth, the world's first supercomputer designed to simulate the entire human brain, is just months away from activation.
Developed by researchers at the International Center for Neuromorphic Systems (ICNS) at Western Sydney University, DeepSouth is capable of mimicking brain networks on the scale of a real human brain.
DeepSouth uses a neuromorphic system that replicates human biological processes. Using hardware, it efficiently simulates large networks of spiking neurons, achieving an impressive 228 trillion synaptic operations per second.
⚡️ This rate is comparable to what scientists believe the human brain could achieve. Researchers at ICNS are optimistic that by replicating brain functions, they can gain a deeper understanding of how it works and subsequently develop more effective AI systems.
Professor André van Schaik, the director of ICNS, emphasizes that DeepSouth's unique design sets it apart from other supercomputers.
⚡️ It has been specifically designed to function like a network of neurons (brain cells), meaning it requires less energy and achieves greater efficiency.
This approach is in stark contrast to traditional supercomputers, which are optimized for traditional computing tasks and consume a lot of power.
