I'll like to add another reason why India is being cautious about Starlink. Ukraine’s experience explains why.

When Russia invaded Ukraine, Starlink became a critical communication lifeline for Ukrainian forces. In 2022, Starlink disruptions affected Ukrainian military communications. Later, Elon Musk refused to activate coverage near Crimea for a Ukrainian operation, citing fears of escalating the war.

This shows how a private company can control where a critical communication network operates.

Now imagine India depending on a foreign-controlled network during a border conflict or national emergency. Should our critical communications depend on decisions made by a billionaire thousands of kilometres away?

Satellite internet isn’t just about faster Wi-Fi. It’s about national security, strategic autonomy, and control over critical infrastructure.

Technology can be global, but national security cannot be left dependent on someone else’s decisions.
