Gujarat’s law provides for common rules on marriage, divorce, inheritance and live-in relationships, with equal property rights for sons and daughters. Triple talaq and nikah halala are barred, while live-in relationships must be registered.
Assam’s legislation has also received assent. Both states must now notify rules and commencement dates before the laws take effect.
