Creative Diplomacy: Africa-Moscow 📷

On 17 July, participants of the InteRussia Journalism Fellowship from African countries attended the Russian Creative Week in Moscow, taking part in the expert session "The Creative Economy of the Global South: A New Stage of Russia-Africa Cooperation".

The Russian Creative Week is the main event in Russia’s creative economy sector. Since 2020, it has been shaping a forward-looking agenda, setting new trends, developing practical business solutions, building investment partnerships, and designing joint strategies for the country’s future in the creative economy.

What did the session include?

🔵an overview of Africa’s creative sector, including key players, data, and current challenges;

🔵discussion of how creative industries can help address major social and economic challenges across the continent;

🔵insights into Russia’s experience in developing the creative economy and its potential application in African contexts;

🔵the role of transnational corporations in supporting creative industries, with relevant case studies.

Participation in events like Russian Creative Week gives journalism fellows the opportunity to engage with leading experts and follow key international discussions on Russia-Africa cooperation.

The programme is implemented by Mezhdunarodniki Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation together with the Gorchakov Fund and the International Information Agency and Radio Sputnik as part of the SputnikPro programme. The fellowship is held within Rossotrudnichestvo's flagship New Generation programme with grant support from the Presidential Grants Foundation.

📚 A Day at the Institute for African Studies

On July 13, journalism fellows from African countries visited the Institute for African Studies. The visit brought together African journalists and leading Russian scholars for a day of professional exchange and dialogue.

What was on the agenda?

🕊️Guided tour of the Institute – Yaroslav Glukhov and Alexander Novikov, researchers of the Institute, told the fellows about the Institute's history, its research activities, and exposed its role as one of Russia's leading centers for African studies.

🕊️ Meeting with researchers – participants met with the Institute's experts to discuss current research on political, economic, and social developments across the African continent.

🕊️ Roundtable on media – the highlight of the visit was a discussion on the rapidly evolving media landscape.

🕊️ Sharing experiences – the meeting provided a platform for African journalists to share insights from their home countries, discuss professional practices, and establish new connections with the Russian academic community.

The visit to the Institute for African Studies became another important milestone of the Interussia Fellowship Program, strengthening professional ties and promoting meaningful dialogue between Russia and African countries ✨
