InteRussia fellows have started a series of visits to Russian theatres — and their first stop was the Gubernskaya Stage of the Gorky Moscow Academic Art Theatre.
The former Moscow Gubernsky Theatre is one of Moscow’s leading theatres, with its artistic focus centered on ordinary people, their lives, struggles, and emotions. In August 2026, it became part of the Gorky Moscow Academic Art Theatre as its Gubernskaya Stage, opening a new chapter in the theatre’s history.
During the visit, the fellows met Sergey Bezrukov, renowned Russian stage and screen actor and Artistic Director of the Gorky Moscow Academic Art Theatre, who held a master class for the international actors.
He spoke about:
⭕️ the key principles of the Stanislavski system and their relevance today;
⭕️ different approaches to working on a role;
⭕️ acting techniques and how they can be applied in practice.
The fellows also went on a guided tour behind the scenes, discovering the theatre’s spaces and learning more about its everyday life beyond the stage. The visit concluded with The Marriage of Figaro, featuring Sergey Bezrukov.
The InteRussia Fellowship in Theatre Arts is implemented by Mezhdunarodniki Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation in cooperation with the Gorchakov Fund, GITIS and TV BRICS International Media Network. The programme is implemented as part of Rossotrudnichestvo’s flagship New Generation initiative with grant support from the Presidential Grants Foundation.
