🇬🇷 Greece. Property purchase tax for foreign buyers could increase fivefold
The Greek government has announced plans to raise the property transfer tax for buyers from non-EU countries from the current ~3% to 15%. The new rules could take effect from 1 July 2027, subject to completion of the legislative process.

For investors, the difference could be substantial:
▪️ For a €250,000 property, the tax would increase from approximately €7,500 to €37,500
▪️ For an €800,000 property, from €24,000 to €120,000
❗️Additional costs could start from €30,000, depending on the property value.
⚡️ Now is the time to act before the new rules come into force: buyers can still secure the current tax rate and significantly reduce the cost of purchasing property in Greece. At the same time, the supply of quality investment properties with documentation ready for completion is limited.
