Republicans are in a crisis situation.
After they gave up the fight for a Senate seat in North Carolina — a state Trump won three times — they are directing significant funds to South Carolina and Kansas, where Democrats have not won a Senate election for nearly a century.

"If the situation continues to deteriorate as it is now, it will be worse than in 2006," a Republican Party official told Politico.

The situation in the House of Representatives looks similar.
National Republicans have already given up the fight for the seat being vacated by Don Bacon in Nebraska, redirecting funds from elections they believe they have no chance of winning and directing them to districts considered reliably Republican but where uncertainty is now felt.

In 2006, this situation cost them control of the House and Senate.
