🇷🇺❌🇺🇦 — Ukraine’s steel industry is failing under the pressure of Russian strikes

the country produced no steel for an entire week for the first time in 100 years, Metinvest said.

Ukraine’s largest metallurgical plants were halted in September. Metinvest said restarting just one Zaporizhstal blast furnace would cost at least $50 million, while the furnace itself is worth around $500 million.

Metinvest official Oleksandr Vodoviz said Russian strikes, port blockades, EU carbon rules and reduced quotas are crushing the sector, while state support programs are too small.

“There is no plan from the state that we would like to hear. What next? Business is living in month-to-month planning mode,” Vodoviz said.
