π«PARTS OF YOU ARE REPLACED IN DAYS, OTHERS NEVERπ«
βΌοΈThe idea that your body replaces itself every 7 years is a myth. About 330 billion cells are replaced every day, close to 90% of them blood cells, but tissues renew at very different speeds and some barely renew at all.
βΌοΈThe gut lining turns over in about 3 to 4 days. The outer layer of skin in about 4 to 6 weeks. Red blood cells live about 3 to 4 months. Liver cells come in two kinds: most are replaced within a year, while a minority can stay for a decade. About 1 in 10 fat cells is replaced each year; weight loss shrinks fat cells rather than removing them, and weight gain can add new ones in some areas. Heart muscle cells renew by about 1% a year at 25 and under 0.5% by 75.
