Azerbaijan and Armenia have nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced on social media X a joint initiative by Baku and Yerevan to nominate Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

Key statement by Aliyev: "President Donald Trump played a historic role in advancing peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia at the Washington Peace Summit organized by him on August 8, 2025. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the peace process, on my initiative, Azerbaijan and Armenia jointly nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. We sincerely hope that President Trump's historic efforts to establish a lasting peace in our region will receive due recognition at this year's Nobel Peace Prize award."

Context

· Washington Summit (August 8, 2025): a meeting between Aliyev and Pashinyan mediated by Trump, where a preliminary agreement on peace was reached.
· Transport corridor: the route that will connect Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan through the territory of Armenia will be named the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP).
· Final peace treaty: has not yet been signed; its conclusion is conditioned on holding a referendum in Armenia on removing territorial claims from the constitution.
