The Indian Express Railways’ network is almost fully electrified. So why has it launched LNG train to cut emissions? Using LNG will result in lower emissions than diesel. The Railways, therefore, is planning to equip more DEMU, or 'diesel electric multiple unit', trains with LNG power systems. But why can’t such trains be hauled by electric locomotives?
