The book High-Accuracy Finite Difference Methods by Bengt Fornberg was
recently published by Cambridge University Press. It provides a broad
perspective of finite difference methods – a still rapidly evolving
technique for scientific computations, with several key developments
barely yet in the literature. Included topics extend from generating
FD formulas and applying these to solving ordinary and partial
differential equations (on grids or with irregular node layouts), to
numerical integration, evaluation of infinite sums, approximations of
fractional derivatives and computations in the complex plane. The
descriptions are focused on conceptual insights and practical aspects,
and are extensively supported by illustrations, appendices, and
references. It is aimed at graduate students, researchers, and
educators.
