🚨🚨🚨Asset managers are preparing to use the $XRP Ledger in their Payment and Settlement System.
This upgrade could change what XRPL is capable of handling at institutional scale.
The headline calls Batch V1.1 a payments upgrade.
I think that undersells it.
RippleX engineering head Ayo Akinyele says commercial projects are already being built with Batch in mind, and Ripple plans to share work involving “key asset managers” once the feature is live.
Read that again.
They are building before activation.
Batch V1.1 gives XRPL something traditional finance understands very well: Delivery-versus-Payment.
Imagine buying a tokenized Treasury.
You send the money.
The seller sends the asset.
Those two transfers should behave like one trade.
With Batch V1.1, they can.
Its ALLORNOTHING mode can bundle 2–8 transactions across multiple accounts.
The asset moves and the payment moves together.
If one side fails, everything reverts.
No payment leaves without the asset.
No asset leaves without the payment.
Simple idea. Massive importance.
Now think about what an asset manager actually handles:
tokenized funds,
bonds,
Treasuries,
private credit,
collateral,
cash,
eventually tokenized equities.
All of those products need reliable settlement once they begin trading.
XRPL has been quietly assembling the pieces around that.
Multi-Purpose Tokens can represent financial instruments.
Credentials and Permissioned Domains can control who participates.
Permissioned DEX infrastructure can support regulated trading environments.
Token Escrow expands what can be locked and released.
And Batch ties multiple legs of a financial transaction together.
Then $XRP enters the settlement itself.
The official Batch specification already includes an atomic swap involving XRP on one side and an issued asset on the other.
Think about what that can eventually look like:
tokenized Treasury ↔ XRP
tokenized fund ↔ XRP
tokenized bond ↔ XRP
A professional market maker using one of those markets needs actual XRP inventory.
That is far more meaningful to me than focusing only on tiny transaction fees.
There is also RLUSD.
An institution could use RLUSD as the stable cash leg when it wants dollar settlement, while XRP can serve as a liquid digital commodity when that route makes economic sense.
Different jobs. Same settlement engine.
The timing is wild too.
XRPL’s average tokenized-asset balances reached around $3.72B in Q2 2026, and roughly $4.26B including RLUSD.
Ripple also invested in ZILO and Licuido, adding transfer-agency, issuance and collateral-mobility infrastructure around XRPL.
Now Batch is nearing activation.
At the latest count, 30 of 35 tracked validators supported Batch V1.1, with activation projected shortly after September 29 if support holds.
And after activation?
Ayo Akinyele says we should hear more about the asset managers already building around it.
That is the update I’m waiting for.
Who are they?
What assets are they settling?
And most importantly:
Does $XRP start appearing directly on the liquidity side of those transactions?
If it does, the XRP story moves into a very different lane.
