✨Dostoevsky believed that people, rather than being in love with the actual person, are in love with an "image" of them that they have constructed in their own minds.
That is why, when that image collapses, we feel betrayed—even though the other person hasn’t changed at all; it is simply that we have "woken up."
Perhaps this is what true love really is: the ability to come to terms with the raw, ordinary reality of another person, rather than the imaginary angel you had carved out in your dreams. Anything else is merely a play of hormones—nothing more.
