Trucking is already subsidized because they don't pay their fair share of costs. Road damage is proportional to the 4th power: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_power_law

Roads are entirely subsidized by people. Commercial trucks should bear the fair costs to make it equitable. Businesses will have the greatest incentive to cut costs and improve logistics.

And we need to talk about the externalities and fossil fuel subsidies, $7T/year worldwide (yale).
