The Asia Cup trophy impasse continued for the second year in a row after the victorious Indian women’s team on Sunday refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the PCB chairman and a minister in the Pakistan cabinet. India beat Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final to win the continental championship for a record eighth time, but the players did not come out on the field for the post-tournament presentation ceremony.

According to a report, the BCCI had informed ACC officials beforehand that if Naqvi attended the presentation ceremony, the Indian team would not accept the trophy from him.

As the two-day BRICS Summit came to an end on Sunday, a political tussle began between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the Opposition party accusing the BJP of imposing its dietary preference. Malaysia's Anwar Ibrahim launched a blistering attack on Israel at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, warning that the economic consequences of Middle East wars are spreading far beyond the battlefield. Familiar scenes unfolded in Dubai after India's record eighth Women's Asia Cup title win. The presentation ceremony was delayed, the Indian team refused to take the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi — who is also the PCB chief and Pakistan's interior minister — and Naqvi was left waiting on the podium before abruptly leaving the venue.

Saikia later explained that India's decision not to accept the trophy was intended to show solidarity with the men's team's stance from last year.

India demonstrated their class and depth when it mattered to defeat Sri Lanka by 72 runs and in the final of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup in Dubai on Sunday. It was their eighth Asia Cup title overall, with five coming in the 50-over format.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s side produced a commanding all-round performance to reclaim the continental crown after two years, avenging the loss to Sri Lanka in the 2024 final. India, however, refused to accept the trophy from ACC president Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the internal minister of Pakistan, just like the men’s team when they won the title in Sept last year.

For the first time in history, Vande Mataram was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium before the national anthem ahead of the first T20I between India and Afghanistan. The entire national song was completed before the national anthems of both teams were played.

The development came months after the Ministry of Home Affairs issued guidelines stating that Vande Mataram would be played before the National Anthem when both are played together at official events.

DMK criticised Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s official UK visit after he attended actor-racer Ajith Kumar’s Le Mans Cup race at Silverstone. DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan questioned the purpose of the trip, saying Vijay had “gone to see the car race of his friend Ajith”.

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) defended Vijay’s meeting with Ajith, saying his presence could contribute to “Brand Tamil Nadu”. Vijay’s UK visit also included plans to study motorsport infrastructure and sports facilities for Tamil Nadu’s proposed Motor Sports City near Chennai.
