Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah appeared to back the decision to impose a 0.4% Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on UPI transactions exceeding ₹2,000, while urging the government to ensure the cost doesn't fall on consumers. He said operating the UPI system in India costs a lot and people “often fail to properly appreciate things they get for free”.
