👀 Watch how robots are excellent at cooking shrimp, folding clothes, cleaning, and giving interviews.
Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing the capabilities of robots, making them smarter and more efficient. This advancement in AI technology has the potential to dramatically reduce the cost of robots, making them more accessible. Recent studies have demonstrated that even moderately priced robots are now capable of performing complex tasks and rapidly acquiring new skills through AI.
The team at Stanford University has developed a noteworthy example with their creation of Mobile ALOHA, a wheeled robot. Built for a mere $32,000, this robot is capable of preparing a three-course meal under human supervision. Using AI, the researchers trained Mobile ALOHA to autonomously carry out specific tasks like cooking shrimp, cleaning up spills, and operating an elevator – feats that typically require much more expensive robotics.
To illustrate, training the robot in shrimp cooking involved remote operation by the researchers for 20 iterations. Each time, they manipulated the shrimp differently in the pan, teaching the robot various methods to accomplish the same objective.
Although humans can perform household tasks with relative ease, robots find these activities quite challenging due to the need for fine motor skills, precision, and a keen understanding of their surroundings. Nonetheless, recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and robotics are progressively surmounting these challenges, paving the way for enhanced robotic capabilities.
▶️ The accompanying videos showcase these innovations in action:
•The first and second videos feature the Mobile ALOHA robot cooking shrimp and tidying up a house.
•The third video displays Tesla's Optimus robot expertly folding clothes.
•The fourth video presents the most realistic robot at the moment, Ameca, who gives an interview to a journalist.
Would you like such an assistant at home?
