On Monday, we received news that was both sad and, at the same time, not the worst: the court in Almaty extended Iuliia’s detention for another six months, until February 28, 2027.
It’s sad because we all — and Iuliia too! — sincerely hoped for a miracle, for compassion from the Kazakh authorities, and for the procedures to be followed. If that had happened, Iuliia would have been free next Monday. But the miracle didn’t happen, and Iuliia now faces another six months in detention.
It’s not the worst news because, of course, six more months in the Almaty detention center are definitely better than being extradited to Russia. We really don’t want to imagine what would await Iuliia there.
To be honest, we, Iuliia’s friends, were really counting on her release. We carefully distributed all the money we managed to raise over the past year between care packages at least every month or twice a month for Iuliia and vaccinations for her cat. Mushka’s documents were even all ready for her to travel! But unfortunately, that didn’t happen :(
So now we need your help again to raise money for care packages for Iuliia and for little things that can make these months a bit easier and help support her while she’s in detention.
