We are announcing an urgent call to action in support of Iuliia Emelyanova.

On January 29, an extradition order was issued against Iuliia. Her lawyer, our team, and human rights advocates only learned about this decision on February 10. The order was issued before the review of her political asylum application had been completed. Iuliia is still being held in a detention center in Almaty, and we do not know when the extradition could take place.

This is why we are asking for your immediate support. On February 14 and 15, please come to the nearest Embassy of Kazakhstan with protest signs. You can find poster templates and a list of embassies at the link provided.
Take photos and videos, share them in the comments under this post, and publish them with the hashtag #FreeIuliia. Let’s show that Iuliia is not alone and that she must not be extradited to Russia.

For context: Iuliia Emelyanova was detained at Almaty airport on August 31, 2025, on fabricated theft charges. She had been an activist with Navalny Headquarters in Saint Petersburg and, after emigrating, helped Ukrainian refugees through “Emigration for Action” and “Just Help” in Georgia, as well as supported Russian political prisoners through the project “Letters to Political Prisoners.” In Russia, she is accused under Part 2 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code (mobile phone theft). Both Iuliia and her lawyers consider the case fabricated and politically motivated.

Her legal team intends to appeal to the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan. Human rights organizations believe the extradition would be unlawful and would put Iuliia in serious danger.

We demand:
— an immediate halt to Iuliia Emelyanova’s extradition to Russia;
— a fair and lawful review of her asylum application;
— full compliance with international obligations to protect individuals persecuted for political reasons.
