Leggy Seedlings

When your seedlings get leggy, they won't survive transplanting outside because they're not strong enough. It's very important to prevent legginess so you don't have to start seeds all over again.

Here are the reasons why they might be leggy:

Lack of Light. Even setting them at a window may not provide enough light. They're trying to grow closer towards the light. Grow lights are best, and make sure they are as close as possible without burning them.

Crowding. The seedlings may be competing for light. Thin out the weaker ones.

High Heat. If you're using a heating mat, make sure to turn it off after they've sprouted, unless the room is very cold. If it's too warm, they'll have a rapid growth spurt.

Dry Soil. Make sure the soil is evenly moist, and don't let it dry out.

Strengthen your seedlings. Normally, they're blown about by wind outside, which gives them a workout. Replicate this by facing an oscillating fan towards your seedlings.

If you caught it early, you can still save them!
