Ode to Clay Soil

Of all the dirt that's out there
There's one that's harshly judged,
Hear me out, pull up a chair
I'll wave your thoughts begrudged!

Clay is dense and hard to till
But in it's rich min'rals to fill
The needs of all your plants galore
You'll only wish that you had more,

Water holds in clay so well
Not much it takes, the thirst to quell
Make sure it drains, and you'll be fine
In the sun, clay holds the line

So add your compost, till it deep
I hope this gives you pause -
Before you look and sigh and weep
Clay can earn applause!
