Measuring Water Output

Knowing how much water your hose can spit out is kind of important when you're trying to figure out how to give your plants the water they need. Instead of guessing, you can reliably count in order to measure your watering in the morning.

Get a 5 gallon bucket, or a 1 gallon milk jug. Set your stopwatch as soon as you turn on the hose and start filling up the container.

With the milk jug, it's easy. However many seconds it takes to fill it up is simply how many seconds it takes for a gallon of water to come out of your hose.

I only had the 5 gallon bucket. So, I filled it, and it took exactly 1 minute to fill the bucket.

Divide 60 seconds by 5, that's 12. So for me, it takes 12 seconds for a gallon to come out of the hose.

Using this calculation, you can now just count while you water and be assured that your measurements are accurate. This can also speed up your morning watering and reduce water waste.
