Soil I: Structure

Before we get on with the cool and interesting part of gardening (green things), we have to address the most important building block of our garden:

Soil.

The quality and quantity of your produce almost entirely depends on your soil. Not even the weather is as important as your soil, though it is still a considerable factor in your success.

Take a look at this chart, and compare these soil types to your chosen plot. If possible, I heavily suggest that you utilize your native soil for your garden (I will elaborate on this later). The structure quality of your soil gives you an idea of how much work it needs to make it viable.

The more compact your soil is, the more difficult you may find it to grow anything. Compact soil is typically low in organic matter, and its anaerobic (lack of oxygen) structure will cause root issues.

Even if your soil is compact, you can still amend it. Luckily, you only have to do this once! Amending from here on out will be so, so much easier.
