This might be a very unpopular opinion, but I think the entire Halo series is overrated console peasantry. People still love Halo largely because of nostalgia. Sure, Halo was revolutionary and ahead of its time in the early 2000s, but the series has been resting on those laurels ever since, sustained by nostalgic gamers who haven’t kept up with the times.

I grew up playing N64 games like GoldenEye, but I wouldn’t bother playing GoldenEye in 2026. Sometimes, going back to old games feels like watching an old black-and-white movie on an old TV: I can appreciate how impressive it was for its time without pretending it still holds up by modern standards.

I’m not saying you can’t enjoy or praise retro games, but objectively there are much better games out there that shouldn’t be overshadowed by older games just because of nostalgia and familiarity.
