🎉 Following the successful release of the Arabic edition of The Old and New Civil Transactions Law, we are pleased to introduce its English edition.

Published in collaboration with LexisNexis Middle East and authored by our Founder, Dr. Habib Al Mulla, this volume offers a comparative analysis of the UAE Civil Transactions Law's evolution, examining the transition from the Federal Law No. 5/1985 to the new legislative framework promulgated in 2025.

Part I focuses on the theory of obligations, as the foundational pillar on which private legal relationships are constructed and the principal reference governing contractual arrangements and civil liability.

"Strait of Hormuz: Open by Law, Contested by Power" - A timely and important subject, examined yesterday in a distinguished panel in which our Founder, Dr. Habib Al Mulla, was among the contributing voices. The session was convened by the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (TheECSSR) in partnership with the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, and brought together a number of eminent experts and guests at the 3rd edition of the Hili Forum 2026.

During the discussion, Dr. Habib addressed the legal status of the Strait and shared a proposal for a dedicated body to help safeguard navigation through the Strait, one that would operate under the umbrella of the International Maritime Organization and bring together the relevant regional and international stakeholders.

We extend our appreciation to the organizers for convening a dialogue of such depth and distinction and for the opportunity to contribute.

The Federal Tax Authority has introduced new requirements governing how accounting records and commercial books must be maintained and made available under FTA Decision No. 4 of 2026.

While the Decision does not change existing record retention periods, it provides important clarity on the completeness, legibility, and accessibility of tax records.

Our latest article by Mohamed El Baghdady, Partner and Head of Tax and Financial Crimes, Salwa Adeel, Tax Manager, and Elisa Kotcherechtchenko, Trainee Associate, considers what these requirements mean in practice for UAE Corporate Tax compliance and Tax Audit readiness.

The Federal Tax Authority's Decision No. 7 of 2026 on the Procedures for the Disposal of Seized and Abandoned Goods, effective 30 July 2026, is a significant development for businesses whose stock is exposed to seizure in the UAE. While the Decision is short at just seven articles, it completes a chain of delegated authority dating back to 2022 and gives the FTA a mechanism to act unilaterally, before any conviction, and on a compressed timeline.
