They Had Names: A Tribute to the Palestinians Killed, Before and After 7 October

To understand what is happening in Gaza, one must go back to 1948.

That year, more than 750,000 Palestinians were expelled or driven to flee, and hundreds of towns and villages were emptied or destroyed.

Palestinians call it the Nakba, the catastrophe. Much of Gaza’s population descends from those refugee families. Many of those dying there since October 2023 are the children and grandchildren of the uprooted.
