⚡️🇺🇸🇯🇵 – Japan lodged a rare protest against the U.S. following the arrest of a 20-year-old Marine accused of having robbed and killed 39-year-old Anna Yagi, found dead at a hotel Saturday.

The Third Marine Expeditionary Force confirmed the arrest of a lance corporal identified as Devin J. Ballard.

The case threatens to put the U.S. military presence in Okinawa under the spotlight once again, since U.S. crimes on the island have caused tensions between Tokyo and Washington for decades.

The Japanese archipelago hosts a large portion of the American bases in Japan, and is a critical point for U.S. and allied forces in the event of a conflict with China.
