🇨🇩🇺🇳🦠 – The World Heath Organization has warned the current ebola outbreak in the DR Congo is "on track to eclipse the West African Ebola outbreak of 2014 to 2016", the worst one in history, which killed over 11,000 people out of around 28,000 cases.
The current outbreak has already killed more than 2,000 people out of 4,300 cases, a much higher lethality rate, and shows no signs of slowing down.
Progress to defeat the disease is more difficult this time mainly due to two factors: it involves the rare Bundibugyo virus, with no approved treatment, and is growing in a conflict-ridden area of the border between the DR Congo, Uganda and Rwanda.
