⚔️ Houthis tighten grip around strategic Yemeni city as Saudi-backed forces struggle
Yemen’s Ansar Allah (Houthis) movement has nearly encircled Taiz, the country’s third-largest city, following a rapid offensive along the Red Sea coast, the Financial Times reports.
Houthi forces have seized large areas surrounding Taiz and turned its main access roads into front lines, leaving Saudi-backed government troops struggling to contain their advance.
👉 Taiz connects the Red Sea coast with southern Yemen. Capturing it would deal a major blow to the Saudi-backed government and potentially open a route toward Aden, its seat of power.
The offensive follows Houthi gains around the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait and comes despite a Saudi-backed counteroffensive earlier this month.
❗️ Meanwhile, residents of Taiz face mounting shortages of food, medicine and fuel as fighting restricts access to the city, with more than 600,000 people reportedly beyond the reach of humanitarian aid.
