🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia scrambles for new trade lifeline to dodge Hormuz and Red Sea risks

Struggling to fend off mounting risks to its maritime trade and energy infrastructure, Saudi Arabia is exploring expanding a new freight corridor, reports The Cradle.

👉 Saudi Arabia’s Port of NEOM and logistics partner CEVA Almajdouie have signed an MoU to study a combined sea-and-land freight corridor from Europe via Egypt and Saudi Arabia to Gulf Cooperation Council states and Iraq.

With shipping in the Strait of Hormuz disrupted, and Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea export terminals and East–West Pipeline pumping stations vulnerable to Ansar Allah strikes, the new route would link NEOM’s Red Sea port directly with CEVA Almajdouie’s land transport network.

♦️ cargo could be moved inland across Saudi Arabia and neighboring markets

♦️ maritime gateways would link up directly to high-capacity inland networks - essential for supply-chain resilience

♦️ for Iraq, the corridor would offer an alternative path for European and other imports, reducing dependence on conventional Persian Gulf routes

The project remains at an early exploratory stage, with no details yet released on costs, timelines or expected cargo volumes.
