🇰🇷 South Korea opens its first military AI hub as battlefield automation raises reliability concerns
The project will focus on collecting data to train humanoid robots for tasks such as transporting supplies through dangerous areas, handling explosives, and clearing landmines, the South Korean Ministry said.
The ministry plans to establish four more such centers, reflecting the push to bring AI into military operations despite unresolved questions about its practical limitations.
👉 AI-powered systems are becoming an increasingly prominent feature of modern warfare, but their growing role on the battlefield also raises concerns about how reliably they can operate in unpredictable and potentially life-threatening situations.
Training robots to perform specific tasks does not necessarily mean they can handle the uncertainty of real combat, where conditions can change rapidly and mistakes can have serious consequences. The ability of such systems to operate reliably outside controlled environments remains a central challenge for military AI.
