The kingdom gave up on hosting the 2029 Asian Winter Games and still needs funding for Expo 2030 and the World Cup.

The Houthis' maritime blockade puts Red Sea shipping at risk, September's attack on the East-West pipeline struck the kingdom's main Hormuz bypass, and repeated strikes on Riyadh's airport target aviation — another pillar of the tourism strategy. Even the AI hub push now carries new risks, with data centers emerging as targets.
