The environment is the shared inheritance of all people, yet it is being treated as an arena for power struggles and a victim of narrow economic and military calculations, Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi said at the international conference "Ecocide: the Silent War Crime" in Tehran, Iranian media reports.
There are three main directions in preventing ecocide, he noted:
🔴 The world needs to strengthen legal frameworks and clear criteria for identifying and addressing severe environmental destruction
🔴 Countries have to create scientific and impartial mechanisms to document damage from armed conflict
🔴 Nations must develop regional and international cooperation to prevent destruction, rebuild ecosystems and support affected countries
💬 "Nature has no voice at the negotiating table or in war," he concluded.
