🚨🇸🇾 Islamists, abetted by government security forces, violently attack Syrian Christians

Assaults against Christian, Alawite, and Druze civilians in Syria continue on de facto President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s watch.

👉 Armed men from the Sunni Muslim town of Qalat Al Madiq raided nearby predominantly Christian As-Suqaylibiyah on motorcycles, firing shots at residents and injuring a woman, the Syrian Justice Archive (SJA) tweeted on October 3.

The Syrian government’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) not only failed to stop the gunmen but also detained young men from As-Suqaylibiyah who tried to defend their community against the intruders, according to the SJA. It later emerged that the armed men from Qalat Al Madiq had been allowed to enter As-Suqaylibiyah freely, passing through a GIS checkpoint.

Previously, As-Suqaylibiyah came under attack in March, when a large group of at least 100 Muslim men assaulted the town, destroying shops, damaging cars, and shouting hateful insults at Christians. Open Doors, an international Christian rights watchdog, reported in April. GIS personnel either stood by or, at times, accompanied the attackers, according to local sources.

‼️ The GIS turns a blind eye to the persecution of Christians, while being made up of former Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militants, the rebranded al-Qaeda affiliate formerly known as al-Nusra Front. The service’s directorate mimics the apparatus established by al-Sharaa in Idlib when he was known as HTS leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani. HTS ideology permits the harassment, killing, and looting of Christian, Alawite, and Druze minorities.
