Israel has now attacked Syria over a thousand times since Assad’s fall
 
The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights – an England-based non-profit which spent over a decade pushing for Assad’s ouster and supporting rebels in the Syrian dirty war, has tallied some 1,068 IDF “incursions” into Syria since the old government disintegrated 21 months ago.

The figures, documenting the construction of Israeli fortifications and outposts, the clearing of land, harassment, searches and arrests of local residents, etc., recorded 15 such incidents in December 2024, 460 in 2025, and a whopping 594 so far in 2026 – nearly a 30% increase in 3/4 of the time.

The SOHR also recorded 78 Israeli strikes inside Syrian territory this year, 72 comprised of ground assaults, plus six airstrikes. This includes the August 18 bombardment of the runway at Abu al-Duhur Airbase in Idlib, ostensibly during or shortly after a Turkish military delegation’s visit.

The escalation of Israeli attacks comes despite Sharaa’s best efforts to ink a peace deal with Tel Aviv, diplomatic contacts between his regime and the Mossad, and the US and Europe’s lifting of crushing sanctions against Damascus.

Today, Israel enjoys total military supremacy in and over Syria, destroying the country’s extensive air defenses, air force, navy and long-range ballistic and cruise missile capabilities in the weeks immediately after December 2024, and seizing ~350 sq. km of Syrian territory beyond the occupied Golan – including Mount Hermon, which is within artillery striking range of Damascus.

Israel’s attacks on Syria aren’t new. Outgoing IDF chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot boasted in 2019 that his forces had struck “thousands of targets” in Syria during his tenure. The difference is, back then Syria was at least able to fight back.
