🛢🇸🇦Saudi Arabia left unable to export crude after Houthi strikes

Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest crude exporter, has informed at least two European refineries that they will not receive scheduled crude supplies next month after Yemeni Houthi attacks disrupted the kingdom’s critical East-West pipeline, Bloomberg reports.

👉Built as Saudi Arabia’s escape route around the Strait of Hormuz, the pipeline was supposed to protect exports from regional disruptions. Instead, a series of Houthi drone strikes forced the kingdom to halt operations along one of its most important energy lifelines.

The pipeline had allowed Saudi Arabia to move up to around 4.7 million barrels per day in June, reducing its reliance on Gulf shipping routes. Now, the same infrastructure has become another pressure point in the conflict.

As Saudi Arabia accounts for around 14.2% of global crude and petroleum exports, the Houthis have repeatedly targeted the kingdom’s energy and military network, including:

🔴Refinery hubs around Abha, Jazan, Khamis Mushait, and Najran

🔴Fuel distribution facilities in Jeddah and Yanbu -The East-West pipeline

🔴Saudi-linked shipping routes in the Red Sea

Despite years of Saudi military campaigns and attempts to weaken the movement, the Houthis have continued demonstrating their ability to reach sensitive infrastructure, including strikes near King Khalid and Khamis Mushait military facilities.

❗️For Europe, the timing could hardly be worse. Saudi Aramco remains one of the continent’s key suppliers, while European energy markets are already pressured by high gas prices and depleted reserves.

A majority of European countries are currently failing to amass the typical early fall target of 80%, with the total EU average sitting at just 68.8% forcing multiple panic buys from the oil giant, which are now effectively blocked by the pipeline disruption.
