💬 “All these forces that [the Americans] brought to the Persian Gulf and deployed them here…Can they start a war? They threaten us with war. But they know that if this war takes place, Iran has built a base in return for every base of theirs, and it has power,” Qasem Soleimani, the late commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force, said in a 2019 speech.
Enemies “know” their capabilities are “nothing compared to the asymmetric power of the Islamic Republic,” he added.
Soleimani was assassinated in January 2020 in a US airstrike in Baghdad during a secret peace mission.
He’s revered as a key architect of the Axis of Resistance and the tactical use of vast underground tunnel networks, and celebrated in Iran and across the region as a crucial coordinator of the fight against ISIS and al-Qaeda in Iraq and Syria.
