Dragonflies aren't just beautiful insects.
They're highly effective aerial predators that hunt a range of flying insects.
That's why they can play a role in natural pest management and biological control. Rather than relying exclusively on traps or chemical pesticides, land managers can also consider how habitat and biodiversity influence pest populations.
Dragonflies need suitable environments, particularly access to water and surrounding habitat, so simply having taller grass isn't a guaranteed solution.
But the bigger lesson is worth remembering:
Healthy ecosystems can provide services we normally try to replace with technology.
The goal isn't necessarily to eliminate every pest.
It's to create a system where nature helps keep populations in balance.
That's a very different way of thinking about farming.
