Don’t automatically toss your old garden soil at the end of the season. 🌱
I like to reuse mine by adding organic matter back into it. One option is to chop up soft, healthy garden debris or other compostable materials, bury them in the soil, and give them time to decompose.
Soil organisms gradually break down that material, adding organic matter back into the soil. Finished compost is an even easier option when I want soil that’s ready to plant sooner.
Just avoid burying diseased plants, weeds with mature seeds, or large woody materials that will take a long time to break down.
Old soil isn’t necessarily bad soil. Sometimes it just needs a little help before the next growing season.
