On this day in 1921, Baron Roman von Ungern-Sternberg was executed by firing squad after capture by the Red Army and trial before a Soviet revolutionary tribunal.
A fierce monarchist and enemy of Bolshevism, he promoted the idea that jews had orchestrated the Red revolution. He is remembered for his fierce and uncompromising resistance to Bolshevik rule.
