China is building a ship to carry underwater drones.

An unusual ship has been spotted in satellite images of the Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard in Shanghai. Based on its design, it appears to be intended for the transport, launch, and maintenance of large underwater unmanned vehicles.

China is already testing XXLUUV vehicles, which can be up to 45 meters long. The new ship will likely allow these vehicles to be transported to testing locations independently and carry multiple units at once.

In essence, China is creating a floating base for underwater robots. If its purpose is confirmed, this will be the first known ship of its kind.
