Music theory #1: Hooktheory, rock harmony in major

Lecture notes

We're gonna read the book "Hooktheory" from the beginning, play examples and discuss:
— how chords are built in Western music
— in which order do they follow each other
— how chords and melody correspond to arrangement

If you have some experience playing any instruments, this meeting will give you a new perspective on music theory. If you have no experience, please stop us frequently with questions – we'll try to answer them

Depending on how motivated is everyone, this meeting can take anywhere from 1.5 hours to past midnight - so maybe bring your laptops for some workshop after the talk

The ultimate goal of this course for me is to help you better understand the structure of music that you like. So maybe we'll analyze something from your playlist further in September.

Начнём читать книжку "Hooktheory", послушаем примеры из неё, обсудим:
— как строятся аккорды в западной музыке
— в каком порядке они идут
— как из аккордов и мелодии строится аранжировка

Если у вас есть опыт игры на инструментах, то приходите за свежим взглядом на теорию музыки. Если опыта нет — тоже приходите и останавливайте нас вопросами, если станет непонятно.

В зависимости от драйва, мы можем либо поговорить полтора часа, либо залипнуть и разойтись заполночь. Так что возьмите ноут чтобы порешать задания.

Глобальная цель курса: помочь вам лучше понимать структуру вашей любимой музыки. Быть может, проанализируем что-нибудь из вашего плейлиста на следующих встречах в сентябре.
