read this book as a good thriller experience, not a good crime experience

the story has a gripping plot. it can be read through one sitting. It will get you and make you wonder what happens next

but its crime essence are rather really childish. it's so simple and some times full of errors and contradictions

overall, a kind of good experience for someone that has just started to read crime

I'm looking for FACS free courses but nothing tends to exist

paul ekman work into emotions are really worth reading and spending time for, we have 7 universal emotions that every human on earth shows the same mimicery signs while experiencing them: anger, disgust, surprise, contempt, sadness, joy,

in paul ekman website you can read about each one of these universal emotions and the science of their mimicery

could we reason like jane ?

when jane sees the body, he assumes that the girl is murdered in the home because she got her nails and hair done and is wearing a sweatpants. that can be a deduction.

jane recognizes who jasper really is, because he keeps record of everybody's syntax, body language and height. "in actuality" is a term not many uses, so when Patrick hears jasper says "in actuality" he recognizes him. with adapting the height and the body language. I think this is a thing everybody can do. it requires some memory training and focusing on details.

before they discover the body under the soil, the killer turns his head away, because he knows what is coming. killers always know about the methodology and location of crime and they can be careless sometimes by acting based on their knowledge.

Fear and surprise are commonly mistaken for one another. In the other photos displaying fear you will see both a raising of the upper eyelid and a tensing of the lower eyelid as well as a pulling together of the eyebrows. In photo C, which displays surprise, the upper eyelid is raised (though the lower lid is not tensed) and the eyebrows are raised (but not pulled together).

Contempt is the only facial expression that is reliably exhibited by a unilateral raising of the lip corners (on just one side of the face.)

three actions commonly associated with anger- lowered brow, tensed lower eyelid, and a glare in the eyes.
Anger can be confused with, and misinterpreted as, disgust since both expressions typically include lowered eyebrows and curled lips. However, a clear sign that you’re seeing disgust in photo C is the nose wrinkling, a facial movement not seen in anger.

the most reliable marker of the enjoyment smile is the Duchenne marker. FACS research has shown that in a true enjoyment smile, the skin above and below the eye is pulled in towards the eyeball, and this makes for the following changes in appearance: the cheeks are pulled up; the skin below the eye may bag or bulge; the lower eyelid moves up; crows feet wrinkles may appear at the outer corner of the eye socket; the skin above the eye is pulled slightly down and inwards; and the eyebrows move down very slightly. A non-enjoyment smile, in contrast, features the same movement of the lip corners as the enjoyment smile but does not involve the changes due to the muscles around the eyes.

French anatomist G. B. Duchenne noted that the orbicularis oculi muscle, which surrounds the eye, is recruited in smiles that occur with spontaneously experienced enjoyment but not in smiles that are posed

The absence of movement in the outer part of the muscle that orbits the eye (orbicularis oculi pars lateralis, in Latin or AU 6 in FACS terms) distinguishes a fabricated smile from the genuine thing.
